Silence - another Pinched Image Short

Silence. Profound silence. A silence within which all sound was like a wisp of smoke that disappeared into the air.

He'd had an epiphany. He wanted to tell his love about it. How he'd found for one instant the silence between all opposites.

the distant past and

the far-flung future,

the infinitesimal quantum and

the galactic great,

between thinking

and dreaming.

between birth

and death

between matter one could touch

and energy one could only calculate.

The silence not golden not describable. He couldn't calculate it,

nor do anything with it.

But how to convey this?

He tried to figure out a way with the most powerful computer.

He wrote a long letter.

He tried smoke signals.

He tried esp.

He serenaded her.

He talked and talked to her about it

He got into ranting.

He asked if she understood.

and

she

who

had

listened

so

patiently

just

smiled

in

silence

and

then

she

had

him

for

dinner
