Dharma groups in or related to Shunryu Suzuki's lineage
(online or off) go to links page for links to other Buddhist groups
and other stuff. Please
help to keep this list up to date. --DC Related Groups list on the SFZC's Web Site with a great map so you can zoom in on them. Here's the SFZC list from July '07 on cuke. This is more complete than the groups listed below which I put on at random now and then cause of mentioning them on cuke. Need to have a really good list with images. Also, from the San Francisco Zen Center's Web Site one can find out about the SFZC's City Center, Green Gulch Farm, and Tassajara. Dharma Sangha web site for Zentatsu Richard Baker's group in America which is centered at Crestone Mt. Zen Center. Zentatsu is Shunryu Suzuki's only dharma heir in America and the only dharma heir who studied with him formally. NOT on it is Tenryu Paul Rosenblum Zen sitting and study group in San Anselmo, CA - cause it's new and he's in Germany a lot with Dhama Sangha Germany. NOT on it is Gil Fronsdal's Insight Meditation Center in Redwood City CA - don't know why. He's tight with ZC. Oversight I guess. Not on ZC list yet: Dave Haselwood's Empty Bowl Sangha in Cotati, CA meets on Thursday evenings at 7pm at 8922 Poplar Ave. <hasweb[at]sbcglobal.net> 707-795-8695 for more info. Berkeley Zen Center - abbot Mel Weitsman, has a good, though incomplete links section. Maybe it hasn't been updated in a while. The following are on the SFZC links list and have just been added here haphazardly at times they were referred to in this site. I need to do a more complete list with photos and all or just link to the SFZC list maybe. - DC Sonoma Mt. Zen Center - led by Jakusho Bill Kwong. Kannon Do in Mountain View - led by Les Kaye. Lew Richmond's Mill Valley Vimila Sangha Steve Stucky's Dharma Eye in San Rafael Taigen Dan Leighton's Mountain Source Sangha. Taigen's Chicago group, Ancient Dragon Zen Gate Goat in the Road - Teacher, Yvonne Rand, a close disciple of Shunryu Suzuki and dharma heir of Dainin Katagiri, teaches out of her temple/home in Philo CA
Darlene Cohen's site features
These MEDITATION GROUPS Russian River Zendo this is her home zendo Suffering & Delight Crystal Springs Sangha Healdsburg Sitting Group Here's the new web site for the Russian River Zendo Back Porch Zendo at the Sawyers in Occidental, CA Zoketsu Norman Fischer and the Everyday Zen Foundation with links to pages on his books of poetry and Zen and more. website for Reb Anderson, Tenshin Roshi Edward Brown's www.peacefulseasangha.com/ Peter and Jane Schneider are now teaching at the Beginner's Mind Zen Center in Northridge, Los Angeles. Two centers of Zentatsu Baker Roshi's (Suzuki Roshi's only direct dharma heir in the West). It's really
weird that the SFZC doesn't mention Zentatsu's group in it's list of
related groups and teachers - echoes of a family feud. Correct me if I'm
wrong:
The Iron Bell Zendo in Sacramento, CA. ******* Check out this well gone well done website for Black Mountain Zen Centre in Belfast Ireland. Starts off with a Buddhist bang so to speak. The teacher is Paul Haller, co-abbot of the SFZC. Back to Links Page for links to other Buddhist groups and other stuff. |
