A student at Tassajara told
Suzuki Roshi that the monastic schedule was hard on her. She said that she
always felt sleepy in zazen and asked if it wouldn't be a good idea to add more
time for sleep to the schedule, so that people could be more alert in
meditation.
Suzuki answered, "When you're tired, your ego is tired."

DC note: Hmm. Having spent a
good deal of my life not getting enough sleep, I've come to question this
approach and now get plenty of sleep, usually till I wake.
