During a break in one of the
early sesshins at Sokoji, a student returning to his seat early straightened a
picture on the wall before he sat down on his cushion. Only he and Suzuki Roshi
were in the zendo at the time. After a moment, Suzuki got up to leave the room.
He walked down the aisle, stopped at the picture, returned it to its crooked
position, and continued out the door.
