Excerpt from an email from Rick Levine on the Crews review in NY Review of Books

There are some needless cruelties here, though it's pretty well-presented. Why does he say "Suzuki's compromises", as if he had solidly established such an evaluation? A little more warmth, a touch of the humor he refers to at the end, and dare I say a better knowledge of some of the subject matter would have made this a better essay.
